I am a director/videographer/editor and consider every project on which I work as a piece of art and give it all of my creative efforts. This includes a high attention to detail in the editing. I believe that a great movie is made in the editing process. Recently I made a promotional video for a no-kill non-profit animal rescue shelter. The promotional video shows a dog being led to a back room in what looks like an animal control center, to what we imagine is the euthanizing of this dog. I was able to convey this fate by the sound of a heartbeat, which stops and is replaced by a flat line sound when the dog disappears into the back room with the person in a medical looking outfit.
The stories that you will find in the short films I write and produce contain well-developed characters and dialogue between characters that contribute to an end product that feels real and familiar to the viewer. They can identify with characters because the situations presented are common human experiences with which all can identify. Some of this comes from my own years of life experience. For instance, my short film “Bobo” about a lost dog with two past owners, a recent owner, and the original owner from three years before, was based on a real experience my husband I am having. I believe that there is some element of real-life in all-good stories we see in movies.
